Yabuli Ski Resort 2026-2027: Opening Day, Lift Prices, Trains from Harbin and a 3-Day Plan

SEASON OPENED November 6, 2026 · 11 min read · Written on opening day, with prices and transport checked against the resort's own published information

Yabuli (亚布力) opened for the 2026-2027 winter this morning: first lifts on November 6, the same day Heilongjiang launched its Harbin ice-and-snow season with a ceremony at the resort summit. A trial run had already started on November 1.

That matters because Yabuli is not one ski hill. It is a valley with three operators — two rated 5S, the top domestic grade, and one 3S — selling a single card valid across all three this season. With a high-speed train that puts you on snow in under two hours from Harbin, it is the most practical big-mountain ski trip in China for anyone already going to see the ice festival.

  12. FAQ

1. What opened on November 6 — and what did not

Snowmaking ran through late October whenever the valley held temperatures low enough. Be realistic about early November, though: opening day at a Chinese resort means the groomed core, not the whole mountain.

The operator puts the season at five months, November into late March. For the whole mountain, including off-piste, book mid-December onwards.

2. Yabuli in numbers

Figures come from the operator and the valley's booking information. Watch the verticals: “Yabuli” is quoted with different numbers depending on whether it means one area or all three.

The reading: 540 m of vertical over 32 km of piste is a solid mid-size mountain by Alpine standards. What makes it feel bigger is the cold dry snow and three areas on one ticket.

4. Lift passes and what they cost

Yabuli has no single national price list; each operator prices its own area and rates move with weekends and holidays. These are the published Sun Mountain (阳光度假村) rates carried on Chinese booking platforms this season, in yuan per person — a planning baseline, not a quote.

  1. Weekends and holidays cost more — expect a 20–50% premium, steeper over New Year and Spring Festival. Weekday skiing here is some of the best value in Chinese snow sports.
  2. “Gear included” means the basics. Jacket, pants, goggles and gloves usually are not. At −20°C, borrowed gloves are a false economy.
  3. Book somewhere that takes a foreign card. The resort sells via WeChat, Douyin and Meituan, which generally want a Chinese payment method. Trip.com, Ctrip and Klook are priced for foreign cards; the window takes cards and cash, and asks for your passport.

5. Getting there: train, coach, road

By high-speed train (the default)

Harbin to Yabuli West (亚布力西站) on the Harbin–Mudanjiang high-speed line takes roughly 70 to 90 minutes, second class around 75–90 yuan. Conventional trains to Yabuli station take about three hours from 37.5 yuan — slower, but a real option when fast trains sell out on a holiday weekend.

From the station, the operator's own directions are refreshingly simple: a local bus runs from Yabuli West and Yabuli South stations to the resort for 5 yuan, roughly every 30 minutes. Taxis exist but negotiate first.

By coach, including the new airport service

New this season, direct coaches run from Harbin Taiping International Airport and Nangang bus station to the resort, removing the awkward city transfer if you land in the morning. Schedules are seasonal — confirm the departure point at the airport desk or through your hotel.

By road it is 198 km, about three hours dry and considerably longer in snow. If you hire a car, insist on winter tyres and check the agreement covers mountain roads.

Do not try this as a day trip from Harbin

Five or six hours in transit to ski for three, and the last train leaves before the night session ends. Yabuli rewards an overnight; two is the sweet spot.

6. The three mountains, and where you should ski

The valley runs around three peaks — Dagokuikui (大锅盔), Erguokui (二锅盔) and Sanguokui (三锅盔). Sun Mountain sits on Sanguokui: the best terrain, the hotel cluster, the ski-in/ski-out rooms, and the most foreigner-friendly operation. The newer Yabuli area runs the night session.

AdvancedErguokui steeps, 45° pitchesReal fall-line skiing; the challenge race is held here
Powder hunterRestored wild-snow trailsUngroomed and tree-lined, only after natural snowfall — ask patrol, never duck a rope

Group lessons are cheap but taught in Chinese; English-speaking private instructors exist and should be booked before arrival, because the pool is small outside peak weeks.

7. Visas and entry for foreign skiers

Most visitors reach Yabuli through Harbin, which has one specific advantage: Harbin Taiping International Airport is the only port in Heilongjiang in China's 240-hour visa-free transit programme. Per the National Immigration Administration, that programme covers 57 nationalities at 65 ports across 24 provinces, allows up to 10 days, and explicitly permits tourism — with a confirmed onward ticket to a third country or region, not back where you came from.

Full detail on both routes is in our 240-hour transit guide and the visa-free expiry explainer.

8. What a three-day trip costs, and where to stay

Rough per-person figures for three days on the mountain, excluding flights and Harbin hotel nights. Prices in the resort run higher than in Harbin city.

Approximate total2,030–2,2303,880–4,6806,360+

Accommodation comes in three tiers: ski-in/ski-out slope-side rooms, worth the premium on a three-day trip because they buy the first hour of untracked corduroy; mid-priced resort village hotels a short walk or shuttle from the lifts, the sensible default for two nights; and guesthouses in Yabuli town, 20 to 30 minutes away, much cheaper but dependent on the shuttle. Book early for New Year and Spring Festival, when the valley sells out; early December and March are quiet, cheap, and often sunny over a deep base.

9. A three-day plan

3Repeat your favourite run until the legs complain; consider a private lessonEarly afternoon train back to Harbin; Central Street and dinnerIce festival if it has opened, otherwise the old quarter

Add a fourth day for Snow Town, north-east along the Yaxue Highway (亚雪公路). Transfer times vary widely with snow conditions, so book a car through your hotel rather than trusting a timetable; the Snow Town guide covers the combination in full.

12. FAQ

Is Yabuli open right now?

Yes. The season opened on November 6, 2026, after a November 1 trial. The groomed core and beginner zone are open; advanced pitches and wild-snow trails follow as depth builds, usually from mid-December.

Can I ski it as a day trip from Harbin?

Technically yes, practically no: three or four hours on snow against five in transit, and you would miss the night session. Stay one night, ideally two.

Do I need a Chinese visa?

Not necessarily. Harbin airport is a 240-hour visa-free transit port for 57 nationalities, with an onward ticket to a third country. Around 50 nationalities also get 30-day visa-free entry, though most of those arrangements expire on December 31, 2026. Check your passport against both lists.

Is one lift card really valid on all three mountains?

That is this season's arrangement: the operators linked their trails and sell a single pass, so you can move between areas without a second ticket. Confirm which card you are being sold at the window, since each operator still prices its own products.

Is it good for beginners?

Unusually so — the summit beginner zone is long and gentle. The catch is language: group lessons are in Chinese, so book an English-speaking instructor ahead.

When should I come?

Late December to late February for full terrain; early December and March for lower prices and thinner crowds. Avoid Spring Festival week, and check the snow report before a February trip — warm spells have forced temporary closures. Plan the ski days first, then slot in the Harbin Ice Festival, whose opening date was still unannounced on November 6.
